Safety is my top priority. We use high-quality, certified equipment, and I will teach you the knots and procedures that minimize risk. Falling into the rope is a common part of climbing; I’ll prepare you for it so you’ll know that both the rope and I will catch you safely.
What if I’m afraid of heights? Is the course still for me?
A fear of heights is natural, and almost every beginner (and even some pros) feels it. In my course, we work with that fear gradually. No one will ever force you into anything – you only climb as high as your mind allows.
I’ve had an injury (knee, shoulder...). Can I still climb?
Climbing is a fantastic form of rehabilitation, but it’s always best to consult with your doctor first!
Do I need a lot of upper body strength or big muscles?
Not at all! Climbing is primarily about technique and footwork. You don’t need to be doing one-arm pull-ups to get started. Your fitness will naturally improve over time, and I’ll teach you all the fundamental techniques you need.
Do I need to buy my own equipment before the course?
If this is your first time climbing, we’ll start at the climbing gym where you can rent all the necessary gear. All you need is comfortable sportswear and a positive attitude. If you already have your own climbing shoes, feel free to bring them along.
Where can we climb together?
My home base is in Písek and Český Krumlov, so we’ll most likely meet there. For indoor climbing, we use the climbing wall in Písek. As soon as the weather allows, we can head out to the rocks and via ferratas around Český Krumlov, Písek, and Hluboká nad Vltavou.
If you’re drawn to somewhere further away, feel free to message me – we can go basically anywhere. Just keep in mind that a longer journey will be reflected in the final price for travel and time.
What should I wear? Do I need any special "technical" clothing?
Not at all. Any sportswear that doesn’t restrict your movement is fine. Long leggings or tracksuits are ideal (to avoid scraped knees on the wall) along with a T-shirt. It’s also handy to have comfortable shoes or flip-flops to change into between climbs. And if you have long hair, don't forget a hair tie!
Do I need a partner for the course, or can I come alone?
You are more than welcome to come by yourself, but I do recommend bringing a partner you trust.
Can I bring my kids along?
Absolutely, kids love climbing! However, since every course is different, we’ll need to discuss the details individually. It depends on their age, the size of the group, and whether we’re heading to the gym or out to the rocks. Give me a call or send me a message, and together we’ll figure out the best way to make sure the little climbers have a safe and amazing experience.
What happens if it rains? (For outdoor climbing)
Rocks and rain don’t mix well. If the forecast looks bad, we’ll either agree on a backup date or move the course to an indoor climbing gym where we’ll stay dry. We’ll always find a solution together.
What if I get sick or something comes up?
Life happens, I get it. If you let me know in advance, we’ll find a backup date. However, since last-minute cancellations can result in costs for me, please try to let me know as soon as possible.
What about insurance during the course?
My courses are conducted under the supervision of a certified instructor, but for your peace of mind, I recommend having standard personal accident insurance. If we are climbing outdoors on the rocks, it’s a good idea to have additional coverage for "high-risk sports" (this is often included in memberships like Alpenverein or ČHS).
Will I be able to climb on my own after one course?
My goal is for you to walk away from the beginner course feeling like you know exactly what you’re doing. I’ll teach you how to tie in and how to belay safely. After that, you’ll be ready to hit the indoor climbing gym with a partner even without an instructor. If you want to head out to the rocks, I recommend trying an outdoor course first, as that’s a slightly different discipline.
Can I give a course as a gift?
Definitely! Climbing is one of the best gifts you can give. Just send me a message and I’ll prepare a personalized gift voucher for you. The recipient can then choose a date that suits them best.
On a lighter note
Will I look sexy in the harness and helmet for photos?
Everyone looks sexy in a harness – it’s scientifically proven! 🍑 But seriously, I choose your harness based on comfort and safety, not how well it matches your shirt.
Will you turn me into the next Adam Ondra?
There’s only one Adam! But let’s take it one step at a time – first, I’ll teach you how not to get tangled up in your own rope. If you then start eating only raw carrots, lose ten kilos, grow a longer neck, and train 8 hours a day... then maybe!
